AC Repair in Verdi

Verdi at a glance

Verdi is a small community of 1,396 people (2020) on the western edge of the Reno area near Interstate 80, next to the California line and in the shadow of the Verdi Range.

What that means for your AC

Closer to the Sierra, Verdi gets more precipitation than eastern parts of the valley and colder winter nights. Reliable heat is as important as cooling, so many homes benefit from a heat pump with good backup heat; see heat pumps. Homes tucked into the trees may also see more leaf litter in gutters and around foundation vents, which can let damp air into crawl spaces where ducts run.

Wooded and fire-aware lots

Trees and brush around homes mean leaves and needles in outdoor units, and on smoky days a well-sealed house with a good filter matters. Snow lingers longer on shaded western lots, so check that heat pump outdoor units sit high enough on their stands and that snow sliding off the roof won't land on them.

O'Neil's Crossing

The settlement was first called O'Neil's Crossing, after a man who built a bridge here in 1860. In 1868 Charles Crocker of the Central Pacific Railroad named it after the composer Giuseppe Verdi, reportedly by pulling a slip of paper from a hat, though locals say VUR-dye. With homes spread along the river and foothills, a breakdown can take longer to reach, so a yearly tune-up and a fall furnace check are worth keeping on the calendar.
