AC Repair in Spanish Springs

Spanish Springs at a glance

Spanish Springs is a community of 17,314 people (2020) covering about 56 square miles in the northeastern part of the Reno-Sparks area.

What that means for your AC

Much of Spanish Springs was built in recent decades, with two-story homes on open lots and few mature trees. Upstairs rooms take the full afternoon sun; see thermostats and airflow for ways to even things out. Two-story homes often have one system serving both floors, with the thermostat downstairs, so upstairs bedrooms can sit several degrees warmer on summer evenings; zoning or a second thermostat can help.

Open valley wind

With little shelter, outdoor units here collect blowing dust and weeds. Check them after windy spells. Young landscaping offers little shade yet, so outdoor units and west-facing rooms take the full afternoon sun; as trees grow, keep branches trimmed back from the condenser.

Air races and rocket tests

A 1940s dirt airstrip called Sky Ranch, near State Route 445 and Spanish Springs Road, hosted the first Reno Air Races in 1964 and 1965. It later became headquarters of Rocketdyne's Nevada Field Laboratory, used in the late 1960s and early 1970s to test rocket engines for the space program. Today houses cover the old airfield. Because so many homes went up in the same era, their systems are reaching middle age together, which makes this a good time to plan a replacement before a summer failure.
