AC Repair in Sparks

Sparks at a glance

Sparks is a city of 108,445 people (2020) just east of Reno, founded in 1904 and incorporated on March 15, 1905. It is named after John Sparks, governor of Nevada from 1903 to 1908.

What that means for your AC

Sparks grew in waves, with a housing boom from the 1950s north of the railroad and newer subdivisions since. Homes from the boom years may have original ducts and electrical service that need checking before a system upgrade; see AC replacement. Newer neighborhoods on the edges of Sparks, by contrast, often have two-story homes where one system serves both floors, and balancing airflow can make upstairs rooms far more comfortable.

Railyard and warehouses

Areas near the railroad and the light-industrial district see more dust and traffic. Outdoor coils and filters there need attention more often. Homes close to busy corridors also tend to keep windows shut more often, so the AC and its filter handle more of the air the household breathes indoors.

A town moved by the railroad

Sparks began when the Southern Pacific Railroad moved its division point from Wadsworth and built a switch yard and shops here in 1904. The railroad gave employees lots for a nominal sum and offered to move every house from Wadsworth and reassemble it in the new town free. The town was first called Harriman, after the railroad's president, before being renamed for the governor. Some older homes near the original townsite have been moved, rebuilt and expanded over the decades, so their ductwork can be a patchwork; a duct check helps before replacing equipment.
